Historical Mysteries … a follow up

A few days ago, David Cairns, author of The Case of the Hydegild Sacrifice, posted some great advice on the topic of historical mysteries. Here’s a round up of other posts on the topic of mysteries.

R.N. Morris who’s written several historical mysteries for his series ‘Empire of Shadows’ posted on his sources of inspiration particularly Dostoevsky.

David O. Stewart’s shares the background for his mystery The Lincoln Deception. He’s also written another historical mystery The Babe Ruth Deception … seems like deception is a theme for David.

Elizabeth St. John shared the historical mystery behind her novel The Godmother’s Secret – a novel set in the 15th century that explores the long-asked question about the princes in the tower – were they or weren’t they killed?

A post from 2012 – yes, A Writer of History has been going since 2012 – features Jeri Westerson who has written a series of novels with a main character called Crispin Guest, a disgraced knight turned detective.

Dual timeline mysteries are popular:

Matt Cost, who used to own The Coffee Dog Mystery Bookshop, describes bringing together two favourite genres, historical fiction and mysteries in a historical series featuring a Private Eye.

Fiona Veitch Smith has written several mysteries set in the 1920s and discusses them in a post titled Flappers, Fops, and Murder.

And here’s my analysis of C.J. Sanson’s historical mystery Dissolution.

Well, that’s probably enough about writing historical mysteries!
