Paris In Ruins – available for preorder

Dear friends … my latest novel, Paris In Ruins is ready for pre-order! As you can imagine, I’m thrilled to be able to tell you about it and as nervous as … well, let’s just say too nervous for me to find an appropriate comparison. Bringing a fourth novel to market is just as challenging as the first one.

Paris In Ruins has been a true labour of love — love for a city of incomparable beauty and tumultuous history, and love for the process of storytelling.

Paris in Ruins by M.K. Tod ~~ Paris 1870. Raised for a life of parties and servants, Camille and Mariele have much in common, but it takes the horrors of war to bring them together to fight for the city and people they love.

The story of two women whose families were caught up in the defense of Paris is deeply moving and suspenseful ~~ Margaret George, author of Splendor Before the Dark: A Novel of the Emperor Nero

Tod is not only a good historian, but also an accomplished writer … a gripping, well-limned picture of a time and a place that provide universal lessons ~~ Kirkus Reviews.

A few weeks after the abdication of Napoleon III, the Prussian army lays siege to Paris. Camille Noisette, the daughter of a wealthy family, volunteers to nurse wounded soldiers and agrees to spy on a group of radicals plotting to overthrow the French government. Her future sister-in-law, Mariele de Crécy, is appalled by the gaps between rich and poor. She volunteers to look after destitute children whose families can barely afford to eat.

Somehow, Camille and Mariele must find the courage and strength to endure months of devastating siege, bloody civil war, and great personal risk. Through it all, an unexpected friendship grows between the two women, as they face the destruction of Paris and discover that in war women have as much to fight for as men.

War has a way of teaching lessons—if only Camille and Mariele can survive long enough to learn them.

I hope you like the gorgeous cover, which was designed by Jenny Quinlan of Historical Editorial.

You can pre-order Paris In Ruins now in ebook format from Amazon.com, Amazon.ca, Kobo, and Barnes & Nobel. It will soon be available from Apple iBooks and Google Books.

I’m grateful to have had the support of family, friends, and fellow authors throughout the journey.

  1. Brava!! So excited for you. Cheering for your success in S. California!
That time in Paris was so important and many people don’t know about it.
I’ll pre-order. I’m sure you’ll transport us to my favorite city while waiting for another visit…

    1. Many thanks, Daniella. Delighted to have your pre-order. I’m in marketing mode right now – such a lot of work to get a book out! I hope you enjoy the story – and please let me know.

  2. A great cover. Well done to you and to Jenny Quinlan. Perhaps you could write a blog post about the stages of cover design sometime, i.e. when your book is well launched.
